Synopsis

An exhibition that invites on board!

Originally, the building housing the Montréal Science Centre was a maritime shed. As a reminder of this past, this exhibition, located in the corridor on level 2, invites you to come on board and find out how cargo transits through a large port like Montréal. What happens when a ship comes into harbour? A maritime adventure awaits you!

To make the experience more dynamic

  • The setting features cutaway containers.
  • A screen shows a 24-hour time-lapse film on the life of a ship at dock. In rapid-fire images, watch the comings and goings of a crane, trucks and containers.
  • Interpretation panels explain how a ship docks and unloads its cargo, and how goods are handled and shipped.
  • Two videos show images of port operations.
  • A game you can play : examine images of containers taken with the VACIS system and identify contraband cargo.
  • Also, find answers to questions pertaining to the logistics of a port
    • How much time does it take to dock a ship?
    • What is the largest container carrier in the world?

Experience life in a port and all its activities, past and present!
