Synopsis

The newsroom

The interactive exhibition recreates a TV newsroom showing montages on five scientific sectors: information technology, biotechnology, engineering, health and environment.

The television report

  • You take your place at one of the fifteen computer stations and start working alone or in a team (up to four people).
  • A virtual news editor offers five choices of subjects: they are all scientific or technical issues involving social choices and affecting young people.
  • You make your choice then compile data from a variety of sources: news reports, interviews with experts, popular opinions…
  • The news editor invites you to discuss and think about the subject and form your own opinion; you then draw up your position statement and film it.
  • It’s time for editing: you choose and edit your video clips.
  • You record the introduction to your report and view the results.
  • Throughout the editing process, you can make changes.
  • If you approve the finished product, you record the conclusion.
  • After completion, your report could be chosen at random and shown on the room’s big screen, like a “special news flash”.
  • If you wish to keep a copy of your report, you can enter your e-mail address so that you can download the report at home.

Four experiences in one!

  • You learn about the work of science reporters;
  • You master the technology they use;
  • You develop critical thinking as a citizen;
  • You think about the impact of science and technology on your everyday life.
