The Foundation’s Virtual Auction 2023: Behind the Scenes

October 18 2023 | Sara Arsenault

The excitement is palpable: the Montréal Science Centre Foundation is preparing to launch its very first virtual auction in support of its mission. The Foundation has been working tirelessly since 2000 to make science and technology accessible to one and all.

Over 60 Lots on Auction

More than 60 incredible lots have been assembled to entice bidders of all kinds. From hockey and science to children’s items and tourism, there is something for everyone. Some of the featured items include 3rd generation AirPods, seats from the old Montréal Forum, a visit to the CCM Lab, a stay at Ottawa’s Metcalfe Hotel, an expert talk about the chemistry of wine… just to name a few!

Bid Options to Fit Every Budget

Starting bids are set at 25% of the items’ market value. This means that you could help support the important work of the Foundation and walk away with a great deal too. Some lots are valued at $65 while others go up to $5,500. There is truly something for everyone.

Lot Donors

Some items are collection pieces. Hockey fans will be thrilled at the chance to take home items that were part of last season’s Hockey: Faster Than Ever exhibition. The majority of items for auction were donated by well-known local businesses, like Bota Bota, Cirque Eloize, Place des Arts, and TELUS.

How to Bid in the Virtual Auction

Taking part in the auction is simple and fun! Find the item or the experience that excites you on the auction website, create an account, and place your bid! You can follow the bids you’ve made, bid up as needed, and you can also make a direct donation to the Foundation right on the auction site. Winners can then claim their lots directly at the Science Centre by making an appointment, except for gift cards and event tickets which will be mailed directly to winners.

Ready? You have until October 25 to take part and place your bids!

How Will Auction Proceeds be Used?

Funds collected by the auction will help the Foundation invite 4,000 students from less advantaged schools to visit the Science Centre during the 2023-24 school year. Those generously participating in the auction will also help support Science Centre educators tour the province and visit special education classes for free to share the wonders of science and tech.

The Foundation’s Mission

For more than 20 years now, the Montréal Science Centre Foundation has been funding the development of the Science Centre’s permanent exhibitions and educational programs. Part of its work also involves making science and technology freely accessible to less advantaged youth and families.

Take part in this exciting event with us! Help us bring science to everyone!
