Shockwave!

Earthquakes are caused by the powerful movement of plate tectonics. Can you create structures able to resist these forces? Divided into teams, students build structures that meet precise standards and then test them on a plate that vibrates and simulates an earthquake.

Workshop details

Can you construct a building that will withstand an earthquake? “Become” a civil engineer and help protect people in high-risk seismic zones.

Activities

The children will:

  1.  Explore plate tectonics to understand earthquake phenomena.
  2. Build an earthquake-resistant structure that meets very specific specifications.
  3. Present their structure to the other students and test its resistance using an earthquake simulator.
